This week we bring you another mix informed by years of experience, this one by American producer Andrei Morant. Morant’s been DJing since the ’80s and releasing techno since the ’90s on labels like Planet Rhythm, Template and his own Scope Recordings, founded in 2003. Spend an hour immersed in his sound, with a mix filled mostly with originals and his own remixes. Andrei will perform at this year’s Interface / Scene event in Detroit during movement weekend.

D-Node 192: Sutter Cane | Driving Forces

Austrian DJ/producer Sutter Cane is the founder of Driving Forces, promoter of a monthly techno club series called BOINK!, and A&R of Driving Forces Recordings. As a known remixer he’s worked with artists like Sasha Carassi, Space Djz, Virgil Enzinger, Pfirter, Gayle San, Roberto Capuano, A. Paul, and BCR Boys. His latest releases include the Outer Limits EP on Nachtstrom Schallplatten and Thorium / Chemtrails on Sasha Carassi’s Phobiq.

For this week’s D-Node he’s put together a set of techno primed to please our listeners, including tracks and remixes from Truncate and Drumcell. Tracklist below.

OVERVIEW:

David Flores surfaces as Audio Injection with No Key EP, two slabs of pristine techno for the new year. After owning 2011 & 2012 with over a dozen releases as Truncate, Audio Injection flexes some production muscle to put out a sound that’s as huge as it is hypnotic. The A side features Deep Thought, a seven-minute obsession around a short melodic fragment that speeds at 130 BPM through a paranoid passage of beguiling rhythm. The B side features title track No Key, a demolishing groove that builds and breaks but never lets go. Machined percussion and tonal beats carve their way through an arena-sized rabbit hole with detail and dimension.

This week we’re pleased to share a 3-hour DJ set from Droid’s own Truncate, also known as Audio Injection, recorded live during his Droid tour appearance at Berghain in Berlin. The man’s been on a roll these past couple of years with hugely successful records on Droid, Enemy, Modularz, Historia y Violencia, and his own Truncate label as well as licensing deals on Cocoon and Ben Klock’s highly acclaimed Fabric mix CD. His tracks are top choices for top DJs, and his production prowess is reflected in his DJ sets. Essential listening.

For a decade Droid Behavior has pursued and realized its vision of techno in Los Angeles and beyond. The vinyl label, which features as well as develops international artists, has been supported and licensed by key players and groups in the music industry. Aside from the releases, Droid has pushed its message through alternative media such as podcasts, videos, and interviews, helping the group expand its global presence. All these transmissions as well dozens of releases and remixes have contributed to resident artists Drumcell, Audio Injection/Truncate, Raíz, and Luis Flores showcasing and performing their unique take on the music in some of techno’s finest venues around Europe, North America, South America, Japan and Australia. The Droid vibe resonates through the events, most notably Interface, which have now occurred in Los Angeles, Detroit, Denver, and soon New York. It is at Interface that Droid re-asserts its vision of underground nightlife, combining cutting edge talent, earth-shattering sound, and electrifying visuals to create an incomparable and fully immersive music environment.

November 17 we celebrate the contributions many have made to this scene, and the role our city has come to play on the international stage, at Interface 39, the Droid 10-year anniversary. The event will feature performances by residents Drumcell Raíz and Dean Paul as well as an extended set by Berghain’s Marcel Dettmann.

Droid Behavior continues the Interface Tour de Force. This time we debut our 38th installment in Denver during the Great American Techno Festival. Droid residents Drumcell, Truncate, Raíz (live PA) and Dean Paul will perform. Video manipulation will be provided by Oktaform. Truncate on Fabric 66: Ben Klock + Drumcell / Luis Flores on Cocoon 2012: Joris Voorn

Ben Klock’s highly anticipated Fabric mix surfaces in October and will feature two unreleased tracks from Droid recording artist Truncate.

Fabric 66 shows a slightly different side of Klock. “I didn’t want to include any of my ‘hits’ from my sets this time,” he says. “The idea is more that you have something to discover when you listen.” By interspersing straight up techno tracks from the likes of James Ruskin and DVS1 with understated selections from Trevino, Burial and Alva Noto, Klock shows the range that exists within his trademark style. The mix will be launched with a party at Berghain on October 13th and then at fabric on October 27th.

As part of the record release party at Berghain, Truncate will also perform at the club alongside Ben Klock, DJ Deep and others.

The May release of Droid.14 – Luis Flores “New Flesh EP” also received wide spread exposure with the licensing of Drumcell’s remix on the Cocoon Heroes 2012 mix CD by Joris Voorn.
