OVERVIEW:

Droid resident artists David Flores (Audio Injection/Truncate) and Vangelis + Vidal Vargas (Raíz) combine their production elements on the Degrees of Motion EP. David has been burning up the industry charts with his latest raw vibe alias Truncate. The spring/summer season in Europe would have been quite silent had it not been for the phrases CONCENTRATE and FOCUS. With releases and remixes on Enemy, Modularz and his own Truncate imprint, David has enjoyed strong support from renowned acts Dettmann, Klock, Luke Slater, Chris Liebing, Speedy J, DVS1 and countless others. The members of Raíz, Vangelis and Vidal Vargas, have also been making waves with their work on Historia Y Violencia, Silent Steps, Gynoid, and Droid. On this collaboration David and the Vargas brothers combine the dry and groovy tool perfection of Truncate with the concept and sense of depth Raíz has been developing over the last year. The result is a series of 3 flawless tracks exemplifying the Degrees of Motion. Inertia builds the EP with heavy drum programming and warm pad work. Flux takes the energy up a notch with hard swing percussion, sharp analog noise and arctic synthesis. Jude Law leaves his seed. Rhythm completes the cycle with a deeply grounded pulse, accented by an enigmatic call to consciousness and presence. Degrees of Motion is a solid showcase of this production team’s potential.

Prime is the above ground series by Droid Behavior. Our aim is to provide internationally renown techno house minimal and crossover talent to the city of Los Angeles on a monthly basis.

ABOUT JOHN TEJADA:
Normally associated with his peers in techno from Detroit, Europe and elsewhere, John Tejada has embraced electronic music as a personal frontier, expanding on his resume as a techno recording artist as producer, remixer, DJ, and label owner. Known for crafting a brand of subtle, musical techno, his recorded output ranges across tempo and genre lines, from chilled out affairs with spacious arrangements to pulsating, densely layered, deeply energetic tracks that work magnificently in the hands of DJs as well as on the home stereo. Tejada will be performing a live rendition of his latest full length for Kompakt “Parabolas.” Please join us as we celebrate the date of manufacture of Raiz member Vangelis with an LA all star line up.

Los Angeles born and bred, Vangelis and Vidal Vargas were raised in the ’80s on a steady diet of Latin freestyle, electro, and new wave that pervaded their urban environment. Their father also exposed them to cutting edge progressive acts Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk, planting early seeds for aural exploration. By the mid ’90s they were sampling LA’s underground club scene and heavily researching electronic music’s roots. After years of influence they began to express their musical vision through their own recordings and performances. Vidal and Vangelis eventually found common ground with producer / performer Drumcell, and in 2002 they formed the Droid Behavior event production group and record label out of frustration with the city’s lack of knowledge, acceptance, and understanding for Midwest-bred techno and house music and their European counterparts. As producers Vangelis and Vidal have released and licensed original music and remixes under various aliases (most notably Acid Circus and Raíz) on the Droid Recordings imprint as well as respected labels Historia y Violencia, Tora Tora Tora, DJMag, Music Man, Resident Advisor, Enemy Rec, Gynoid, Reloading, Micro.Fon and Timefog. Their music has been charted, played and supported by Speedy J, Chris Liebing, Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, DVS1, Levon Vincent, Jonas Kopp, etc. Their intense and inspiring performances have placed them alongside major players Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Derrick May, Dan Bell, Surgeon, Sandwell District, Robag, Paco Osuna, Pan Pot, Marco Carola, Detroit Grand Pubahs, and Ostgut residents at undergrounds, festivals, after hours, and club nights all over the Americas, and Europe including Berghain in Berlin. The members or Raiz not only produce for Droid recordings but also help manage the label as well over see all event production, bookings, the droid podcast, and blog site.

Just in time for the annual Detroit Movement festival….CLR and RA team up to host an official festival after hours that boasts some of freshest heavy hitters in techno today.

Saturday, May 28th CLR heads to Motor City for an official Movement Afterparty with a world-class line-up. 5 DJs will be taking over 2 floors of Elysium nightclub for a night of pure underground Techno Music. The lineup includes Chris Liebing and Speedy J teaming up for their Collabs project, Radio Slave, Marcel Dettmann and Drumcell. More acts to be announced soon.

Roberto Bosco is a young Italian producer with a short but highly impressive discography, spanning labels such as Samuel L. Session’s Klap Klap, Orlando Voorn’s Night Vision and Len Faki’s Figure. His release for Francois K’s Wave music took his career to another level, garnering the following praise from Francois himself. He describes Roberto’s music as “having an effortless quality; an almost dazzling sense of ease that masks a very strong foundation; a depth and musical maturity that belies his young age.” All compliments aside, Roberto’s sense of musical depth does not disappoint and can be heard clearly on this week’s latest D-node episode. Enjoy the submersion….this is a deep one.

Detroit Grand Pubah’s mastermind Paris The Black Fu provides this week’s podcast with a fun, aggressive mix of techno funk with that unmistakable Bootygrabber flare. The Pubahs have evolved since the days of their breakout single “Sandwiches” with 5 albums, dozens of EP’s, hordes of remixes and a shitload of international gigs. Their experiments in the lab have formulated yet another concept and their new album “Techmarine Bottomfeeders” will be due sometime in the near future in a galaxy not so far away. DROID EUROPEAN TOUR 2011

After a long streak of successful releases, Droid embarks on a proper European tour this season. Drumcell, Audio Injection and Raíz have all performed overseas individually, but this marks their collective debut on the continent. The Tour kicks off with a Cell Injection showcase in Athens on April 15 courtesy of Octave’s newfound Silent Steps label. Next they perform together at the legendary Berghain Klubnacht on April 16 alongside Ben Sims, Ben Klock and the Echochord/EPM showcase. The duo continue (both solo and together) through April 29 with many stops including Switzerland, UK, and other shows in Germany. Raíz wraps up the Eurotrip with a debut at Berghain that boasts Rachmad, Skudge live, and Dettmann vs Klock on the bill. Their last stop will be centered around Essen at Hotel Shanghai courtesy of Platzhirsch label boss Tobias Becker. Expect documentation.

ABOUT Hyperactive:
Joseph Manumaleuna aka DJ Hyperactive leaped up out of Chicago right at the peak of his career on a straight shot to SoCal to take on the daunting challenge of opening a record store, managing 4 Track Records, and jumping on planes. Come 1998 it nearly tapped him out and set him into seclusion for nearly a ten year hiatus. Here we are again, woken from all of the murmuring amidst a culture and scene who’s nearly seen the complete obliteration of vinyl production and distribution stateside with having to lean heavily on the feeds from abroad. They say you’re only as good as your last output. Let’s see if he can pick up where he left off nearly a decade ago.

ABOUT Jeff Derringer:
Jeff Derringer is the resident DJ and creative director of Oktave. With the Oktave project, the last year has seen Jeff host and play alongside Techno’s cutting edge: Silent Servant, Par Grindvik, Claro Intelecto, DVS1, Samuli Kemppi, Cio D’or, Three and a host of New York’s homegrown talent like Eric Cloutier and Derek Plaslaiko. Recently Jeff relocated to Chicago and opened a 2nd incarnation of Oktave, which debuted on Nov. 5th with Silent Servant and DVS1 at Smart Bar. As a producer, Jeff has released slick productions on high profile labels Perc Trax and Subtrak with remixes by Samuli Kemppi, Clato Intelecto and more.
