Henning Baer is one of the founders behind Berlin’s leading Grounded Theory parties, and as a producer turned heads last year with his releases on K209 including work with Sawf and Milton Bradley, which he discusses in-depth in an interview with TEA. Coincidentally we ran into Henning during our last European tour. One night while in Berlin, i went out for a late night döner and giant vanilla coke. Upon returning to the lobby of my hotel one of the bar staff told me i could not bring outside food to the lounge. I grumbled off back to my room and finished my dinner. My brother stepped out for a night cap and he was recognized by the bar keep as a member of Raíz. It turns out the bar keep was Henning Baer and he just so happened to be on shift. He apologized and invited us to Grounded Theory that weekend with a special appearance by Ben Klock. We went, we saw, he conquered. Aside from curating the excellent club nights, Henning Baer is heading into a bright 2012 as producer and performer. He presents this mix for D-Node 144, filled with a dark, driving strain of contemporary techno.

Dean Paul’s one of Droid’s select resident DJs. Supporting Droid with his photography, video, and other media, Dean is known to most as a DJ for all occasions. A dedicated music head since the early 90s, he’s since played just about every kind of venue and always finds the perfect music for the time, place, and crowd. This set for D-Node was recorded last November at Cause in Minneapolis and features a range of sounds from bass music to deep techno to mid-90s acid. Enjoy.

This week brings another European DJ/producer with a tendency toward the deeper side of house, Arnaud Le Texier. Arnaud got started in 1990 as a record shop manager and soon 5-year resident of Paris club Queen. After running Atcha Recordings with James Warren for five years he founded Safari Electronique in 2005 and soon moved to London to become a regular at places like Secret Sundaze and Fabric. In 2009 he founded digital offshoot Safari Numerique, focusing on the deeper side of house and techno, which is where he takes this mix of contemporary techno heavyweights.

A chance meeting between me and Kai Von Glasow at a gig in Essen last year prompted the following connection. His fine blend of deep house and techno, in the manner only germans can do it, impressed my brother and i so much we had to find a way to showcase it. The next logical step was to get him on the Droid podcast for all our network and unfamiliar individuals to share in the deep. 21-year-old Kai has spent these last few years building his name with a residency at Essen, Germany’s Hotel Shanghai and two releases for Terpsiton Records. He’s just made another release appearance with “Spitting It Out” for Mild Pitch, and this week he takes things slow with a deep house-oriented mix for D-Node.

Also joining the celebration will be Joe Bickle of Animal Club and Charles Fox. This event marks a meeting of the minds with a consolidation of leaders from the underground scenes in Los Angeles.

Pasquale Ascione, also known as Ascion, was born in Naples Italy and now lives in Berlin. Ascending the ranks with collaborator D. Carbone, he was first discovered by Berlin’s Kiddaz.fm. and released “F*** me” on Micro.fon. Ascion caught the attention of Drumcode’s Adam Beyer and Sci-Tec’s Dubfire, leading up to two major releases, “Kick On” (DC55) and “Muzik Live Drop Be Doing” (TEC025). Ascion’s constantly evolving, and has forthcoming work with producers D.Carbone and Shapednoise as Repitch Recordings. His style’s been called mental and dark, but also powerful and rhythmic.

DJing in France since the early ’90s, Zadig has always focused on selection and technique, crossing lines between hypnotic, deep techno and its more acid-tinged, jacking counterparts. He’s made music for Plastic, Syncrophone, Panam, and Sino, as well as his own Construct Re-Form, which will soon unveil its 3rd release including a Roman Lindau remix. For Droid he presents this mix of deep techno, hard, jacking grooves, and a couple Droid Recordings.
